April is here and with it, a few live dates. We have a pair of Wayside and Woodland Recordings events, first at the Union Chapel, Islington, London on the 7th, as part of their free "Daylight Music" matinee events, and at the Ikon Gallery, Birmingham on the 20th which also doubles the launch for My Autumn Empire's new album "My Autumn Empire II".
Union Chapel, London - 12pm - Free
Ikon Gallery, Birmingham - 7:30pm - £5 on the door
My Autumn Empire will headline both, with E.L. Heath and P.Manasseh as support.
Practices have gone extremely well and these gigs not only bring a distinct change of direction for My Autumn Empire, but also for myself and we will be playing several new songs which have been waiting in the wings.

Tomorrow (Saturday 17th) I will be playing 4 sets (providing the live soundtrack for a short film) at the Flatpack Festival aboard the Ikon Slow Boat. It's going to be a great day and I'll be accompanied by Rob Dunsford, Bens Holton and Rob Glover. We are due to perform at at the following times:
13:10 - 13:30
14:10 - 14:30
16:40 - 17:00
17:40 - 18:00
Entry is free (but space is limited so do check ahead of time to claim a space) and the Slow Boat will be moored at the Minerva Works on Fazeley Street, Digbeth.
More information can be found here:

E.L. Heath and friends will be providing a live soundtrack to the Ikon Youth Programme's “Archive Canal Project”, a short film about the Birmingham Canals made from archive library footage aboard the Ikon Slow Boat.
For me, the Flatpack Film Festival is one of the highlights of my calender each year, and my annual trek to Birmingham promises to be very different this time.
The performances will take place from 1-2:45pm and 4:30-6pm on Saturday the 17th March, and will involve a mixture of acoustic instruments, original music, live audio processing and songs by us all. The Ikon Slow Boat will be moored by the Minerva Works in Digbeth and whilst entry is free, booking is advised as capacity is limited.
More details at:
I am very excited to be taking part in the "September Sessions", a series of intimate unplugged sets on a converted canal boat whilst cruising around the Birmingham canals. These take place every Wednesday evening during September and entry is free, though space is very limited. These sessions will also be recorded and filmed as an archive for the "Slow Boat".
The sessions start tonight with Poppy Tibbits and old friend Timothy Parkes, I play on the 14th and Tom Peel and A Boat to Row round off the month.
For this, and many future sets, I will be accompanied by both Rob Dunsford and Ben Holton. I have accompanied Rob during his sets for many years and similarly with Ben as a member of the epic45 live band.
To book a place please call Ikon on 0121 248 0708. Sessions are free but limited to 15 per session. Meet at Ikon Gallery, Brindleyplace at 5.30pm.
Sessions finish by 7pm.

Posted on 6 Apr 2011epic45's new album, "Weathering" is now available, a quite stunning piece of work. Over the last few years, Ben and Rob have become firm friends, so I jumped at the chance when I was asked to join the epic45 live band, with tours and gigs in many amazing places. Last year I was asked to play accordion ("Emmanuel") on their "Daylight Ghosts" single, and now I find myself appearing on "Weathering" along with the names of Richard Adams (Hood/The Declining Winter), Stephen Jones (Babybird), James Yates (The Pattern Theory) and Antony Harding (July Skies).
Last week we debuted some of the songs when we supported Seefeel in Birmingham. We will be playing at the Rites of Spring at the Ikon Eastside in Birmingham on the 7th April.
The album is available to buy from Norman Records and to download from the epic45 Bandcamp page.
I have also been working on a short video for the track "Evening Silhouettes" from the album as well as filming this teaser:
Posted on 28 Mar 2011As another hazy evening draws closer, details of my first ever CD single (and first ever release for my tiny Plenty Wenlock label) have all been garnered.
It has been a long held desire of mine to go back to the days of the CD single, especially the short lived experiment with 3" CDs. Labels such as Ghost Box caused a renaissance in these tiny CDs as novel way of releasing a limited collection of material, using the lack of space on them to their advantage. Though the CD single lost importance with the shift in pop music culture and the move to release "singles" as digital releases, there is always a place, I feel, for this format to exist. I remember the excitement of buying a single, mainly because it also had that classic three-card trick, a damn good song, a B-side (often very off the wall) and a remix (often very obscure). So, true to this, there is an A side, a B side and a remix.
The track, "The Bridges, Ratlinghope" (from my Shropshire Hill Country album) was inspired by the glorious open mic nights at the Horseshoe Inn, Bridges, held every Monday night deep in the hill country of Shropshire. Sadly despite the efforts of the owners, Mo and Bob Macauley, the pub closed down shortly before the release of my album. I felt something like this would be a fitting epitaph.
There will be a limited edition of 25 hand numbered packages, complete with typewritten inserts and made with the selfless help from many friends. Each person has contributed their time and their art free of charge, it has been a true group effort. These will only be available to purchase within the county of Shropshire, from Mo and Bob and a number of local businesses.

Shropshire Hill Country by ELHeath
Posted on 15 Nov 2010Hello there, and welcome to Plenty Wenlock. A curious name, but hopefully explained by the presence of a town called "Much Wenlock" in Shropshire, which I call my home. With the design horror and complete falling apart of Myspace (culminating it in removing the history of all the gigs I had entered, meaning I lost all record of the gigs I had done both solo and in bands), a new home was required, a home for all my projects, my forays into the world of art and music workshops, my discography and short film work, as well as starting up a small record label, nothing too fancy mind, but still a place where you can dig up a rough diamond that most would walk past.
Also on here can see some of my photography, listen to and buy/download my previous albums/EPs, find out who I've recorded with (and what I played, to my knowledge) and all sorts of other information. And whilst you're at it, put the kettle on...
